Photo Credits
The CarDex is built on photographs taken by other people and shared under open licences. This page says where they come from and how to reach us about one.
01Where the photographs come from
Vehicle photographs in the Roadbuds CarDex are sourced from Wikimedia Commons and Flickr, and are used under the licences their photographers chose:
- CC0 and public domain dedications
- CC BY — Attribution
- CC BY-SA — Attribution-ShareAlike
Photographs offered only under NonCommercial (NC) or NoDerivatives (ND) terms are not used. Where the only available photograph of a vehicle carried one of those licences, the catalogue entry was left without an image rather than used anyway — which is why a small number of entries show an illustration instead of a photograph.
Every photograph in the CarDex is modified: the background is removed to isolate the vehicle, and the result is resized. The photographers listed here are not responsible for, and have not endorsed, the modified versions.
02Individual attribution
We are not currently able to attribute every photograph to its individual photographer. The per-photograph source records for the catalogue were lost, and reconstructing them from what remains would risk crediting the wrong person — which we consider worse than crediting no one.
We would rather say that plainly than publish a credits list we know to be unreliable. Every photograph sourced from now on is recorded with its photographer, licence and source link at the time it is added, and appears below.

04If one of these is your photograph
Email hello@roadbuds.app and tell us which vehicle it appears under. We will do whichever you prefer, and we will do it within two business days:
- Credit you properly on this page, with the wording and link you want; or
- Remove the photograph from the app entirely.
No argument, no process, no requirement that you prove anything beyond identifying the picture. If you would rather not be associated with a background-removed version of your work, that is a completely reasonable position and removal is the default.
05Manufacturer names and marks
Roadbuds refers to vehicles by their real manufacturer and model names in order to identify them. All manufacturer names, model names and logos are the trademarks of their respective owners. Roadbuds is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any vehicle manufacturer.
